THE LIFE, LITERATURE AND LEGACY OF ALEXANDER PUSHKIN


A celebratory evening of poetry and music inspired by the great Russian poet St Mary Abbots Parish Church, Kensington Church Street, London W8 4LA Wednesday 27 June 2018, 7pm

A Russian-themed fundraising concert is to be held at St Mary Abbots Parish Church on Wednesday 27 June 2018. The evening will feature music based on the works of the great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin and will include some of his verses narrated in English. Kazakh-born Samson Tsoy will perform selected piano solos, including Pictures at Exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky. He has worked with Valery Gergiev and Vladimir Ponkin and is a graduate of the Moscow Conservatory, the Royal College of Music in London and winner of the Campillos International Piano Competition.

Samson’s playing has been described as having “ferocious temperament, brilliant virtuosity and poetic soul”. Moscow-born soprano and singer-songwriter Lola Ganzarolli, also known as Lola G., will sing a number of Russian romances as well as Tatyana’s letter scene from Tchaikovsky’s much-loved opera Eugene Onegin. Lola studied at the Gnessin’s school in Moscow, before winning a full scholarship to come to study in London. She graduated from the Royal Academy of Music and Guildhall School of Music & Drama and has performed at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Chelsea Arts Club and is young artist of the Peace and Prosperity Trust.

Lola’s recently released album of original songs ‘Undreamt Dreams’, is receiving great reviews. The speaker for the evening is Nicholas Kolarz who will also be reading extracts from Pushkin’s poetry in English. Nicholas is involved in Russian-British arts collaboration and is chairman of St Gregory’s Foundation, which supports young people in Russia. The proceeds from the event will go to support the expansion of St Mary Abbots Parish church, a famous Victorian architectural landmark in Kensington.
